Bishop Fitzjocelyn (1141 – 1191)

Established in 1174 by Bishop Reginald Fitzjocelyn as a refuge for the poor, St John’s Hospital is today one of the oldest and largest almshouse charities in the country, providing sheltered accommodation and domiciliary care for 100 elderly Bath residents. In addition, its Community and Individual Grants Programmes provide vital financial support to thousands of local people in the wider Bath community.
